CIPM tasks FG on spate of crude oil theft

BENIN CITY—THE Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, CIPM, has raised alarm that the daily theft in the oil sector is affecting indigenous operators negatively.
It, therefore, urged the Federal Government to find solution to the problem to encourage Nigerians who  invested in the oil sector.

Speaking during the Oil and Gas Sector Human Resource Forum with the theme: “Reshaping the Future of Oil and Gas Sector in Nigeria: The Entry of Indigenous Companies”, in Benin City, Mr. Alexus Akwukwaegbu, lamented that about one quarter of the nation’s daily oil production got missing, saying that while expatriates might endure the situation the indigenous investors could not.

He appealed to the Federal Government to assist indigenous companies in the sector by “giving indigenous operators incentives to refine crude oil and distribute or export the finished products. That is to use the indigenous operators to fill the existing void for petroleum products. We must consume most of our products, that is the only way to develop, generate power and create jobs.

“Only Nigerians will develop Nigeria. We must prepare and empower our people by challenging their abilities in a tightly regulated manner. Indigenous operators just like politicians will fail several times but they will also rise several times and become stable.
